Accountability Communications
For universities, non-profits, and hospitals, communicating the great things they are doing with state and federal tax dollars is crucial in securing funding for their educational, research, and outreach efforts.
I have written everything from annual reports and succinct legislative briefings on different topics to creating a Web database of organizational success stories.
Here's an excerpt from a piece about Texas A&M's efforts for enhancing the environment:
Don't Bag It Program Extends Life of Landfills
Landfills have been used for solid waste disposal for many years but concerns about pollution from leaking landfills have increased regulation and disposal costs dramatically. Yard waste, consisting of grass clippings, brush trimmings, and tree prunings, account for about 20 percent of all garbage generated in the United States. The Don't Bag It composting program, developed by Texas Cooperative Extension, has greatly reduced yard waste in cities implementing the program. For example, Dallas saves $300,000 annually in waste pickup costs and has reduced landfill disposal by more than 5,300 tons.
